Our Approach to Autism Education

The Birchtree Center is dedicated to helping children and youth with autism grow and flourish in their homes, families and communities. We work directly with students and their family members, caregivers, and educators to help students with autism develop the social, communication, academic, behavioral, and life skills necessary for full and productive adult lives.

All Birchtree programs are data-driven and based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Our approach includes instruction in the following areas:

  • Academics
  • Communication & Social Skills
  • Self-Care & Hygiene
  • Mobility & Fitness
  • Behavior & Self-Regulation
  • Vocational & Independent-Living Skills
  • Leisure Skills & Community Participation

Our Behavior Analysts, Special Educators, Speech-Language Pathologist, and Occupational Therapist develop student programs utilizing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.  All student programs follow New Hampshire state education standards and frameworks and are designed to suit the unique strengths, challenges, and Individualized Education Program of each student.

We collect data on everything we do at The Birchtree Center. When we are asked how a student is doing, we provide a data-driven response.

We believe that learning should be fun, rewarding, and intrinsically motivating.

Our programs are designed to help students generalize their knowledge and transfer skills from the classroom to home and community settings.

We strive to facilitate students’ successful participation in their families, local schools, and communities.  We are committed to full inclusion whenever and wherever possible.
